How does a CSA work?
Simply put, it’s your family buying into a farm without having to do any of the planting, watering, weeding or harvesting!
Community Supported Agriculture is a direct connection between farmers and consumers.
To join a CSA is to buy a share of the season’s harvest and to become a farm “co-producer.”
Before the start of the season, when the farmer is planning for the upcoming year, shares are sold to members of the community at a fixed price. The farmer plans the plantings to meet the shares that have been sold. Every week throughout the season, CSA community members each receive a box of that week’s harvest.
What is Fish Hawk Acres???
We are all about good food grown and produced by folks who know and love what they’re doing. We are a group of producers who have aggregated our products and services under one brand. We believe in supporting local and regional food systems. Our hope is to serve as a catalyst for people who wish to reclaim the food they eat. Locavore is a new word describing local eating, which has been adopted by a cutting-edge social movement. But the Locavore concept is nothing new. Not necessarily 100 percent local, but predominately local is the way almost all people ate until the past few generations.
There is a natural rhythm to food—it is never created in a continuous even flow. The passage of seasons dictates what foods are available when. Fish Hawk Acres offers seasonal products designed for folks that are interested in changing the food scape of our little corner of the world.
The Fish Hawk Experience…
We sell food—not just any food, but foods that come from a regional landscape. We realize not everything we enjoy is available from a local source, so we try to look for producers that produce with sustainable practices. While a large part of our products come from within a 100 mile radius, items like cheese and coffee are sourced with sustainability in mind. We sell food that makes you happy, period. If you experience any problems with our products, please tell us. We will do whatever it takes to make it right.
Shares will be shipped via United States Postal Service Priority Ground directly to your home each week. For this reason, we are able to ship all over the state of West Virginia--so tell your friends about us!
